OFFERING REDUCED FEES FOR SERVICES

Hello and welcome! I’m Christina, an Arab-Canadian registered psychotherapist (qualifying) who is passionate about and committed to mental well-being.

My journey began at the University of Ottawa, where I earned an honours degree in psychology. Since then, my path has taken me across borders and into diverse communities, enriching my understanding of the profound impact of culture on mental health.

During my time as a Mental Health Coach in Ottawa, I specialized in supporting children and youth, helping them navigate stress, anxiety and family-related challenges. I also had the unique opportunity to extend my support beyond Ottawa by travelling to Arviat, Nunavut, where I worked closely with families in the Indigenous community and developed a more holistic approach that considers the interconnectedness of mental, emotional, and cultural aspects in fostering overall well-being.

My professional journey continued in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, working with neurodiverse children and their families. This experience deepened my understanding of Eastern cultural practices and the vital role of cultural sensitivity. Recognizing the growing need for culturally competent counselling, I pursued further education at Yorkville University, earning a Master’s in Counselling Psychology.

I believe that merging psychology with identity is fundamental to empowering underrepresented communities. I am committed to providing culturally sensitive counselling that respects the unique experiences and perspectives of individuals from all backgrounds.

Life is filled with twists and turns, and we all encounter challenges that can feel overwhelming. Whether you’re grappling with stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or simply seeking personal growth, my goal is to provide you with a safe and confidential space to explore these aspects of your life.

My therapeutic approach is grounded in empathy, collaboration, and evidence-based practices. Together, we can address your challenges and work towards finding the clarity you seek. Navigating life’s complexities can be intimidating, but seeking support is a courageous step toward well-being.

Please feel free to reach out for a free 15-minute consultation to see if I’m the right fit for you.

Amy is currently accepting clients for Individual & Couples

Hi, my name is Amy, and I am a Registered Social Worker with a passion for supporting individuals who experience intergenerational trauma, low self-esteem, and relationship issues. My journey to becoming a therapist stems from my childhood experience as a first generation, Korean-Canadian immigrant. I grew up in a small, suburban town where the only Asian students in school were my siblings and one other family. While my 8-year-old brain did not comprehend racism and discrimination, I quickly learned that parts of my Korean identity prevented me from β€œfitting in”. To adapt, I learned to deny parts of my identity and focus on what others accepted. In addition, immigration and settlement stressors often activated intergenerational trauma and conflict in my family. Struggling with self-acceptance, discrimination, and family conflict can feel isolating and pervasive. You may have learned to take care of others while ignoring your needs, feel responsible for how others feel, or fear disappointing anyone. If these experiences sound familiar to you, you are not alone.

As a therapist, I hold deep respect for your unique lived experience and am committed to co-creating a therapeutic relationship grounded in trust, safety, and deep care and support for change. Together, we will explore the impacts of past harm in your present day life, understand and manage unpleasant emotions better, and heal the relationship you have with yourself and others important in your life. I am looking forward to meeting you, having the honour to work alongside you, and encouraging you to reclaim your life’s story.

OFFERING REDUCED FEES FOR SERVICES

Hi there, I am Pouria. I am honored that your life journey has brought you here.

We do not choose our upbringing and the many unexpected complexities life brings, yet, we are impacted nonetheless. The good news is that who we will become is not defined by these inevitable circumstances but by how we react to them. The fact that you consider change and bravely look for the right support shows how you intend to respond to your life events, and it is something to be proud of yourself.

Together we can support you in : regaining control while dealing with anxiety and depression, finding meaning in life, understanding ourselves more deeply, becoming comfortable with who we are, and fulfilling our full potential as neurodivergent individuals. Therapy starts first with creating a comfortable environment where it is safe to share feelings and thoughts that are usually hard to express. In our collaboration, we will get to the heart of the matter and utilize the best fit of therapeutic interventions to better support you in reaching your goals, strengths, and values.

In my own journey, I have chosen meditation and mindfulness when I struggled with chronic pain and anxiety. I sought therapy as a support when navigating through my own experiences as an immigrant and a graduate student in Canada. Through these explorations and various other roles, I learned that my passion and strengths are in helping others. So, I transitioned from an environmental engineer who helped people access clean water to a psychotherapist who assists them in making a fulfilling life.

I wish you the best in your journey to transform your hope, bravery, and strengths into becoming who you desire to be. If you think you and I may make a good team, I would be honoured to meet you for a 15-minute free consultation.

Becoming a therapist has been a lifelong dream of mine. Having family members and friends who have suffered through depression and suicidal ideation always motivated me to pursue this career because I did not want anyone to feel what my loved ones went through- feelings of helplessness, stigma, and loneliness.Β  My perspective stems from my ethnic background and where I grew up. I am a Chinese-Tibetan woman, a second-generation Indian and a first generation Canadian. My whole life, I have tried to adapt to a culture different from my own. Dealing with discrimination, racism, and prejudice can be disheartening and isolating when you consider that place your home.Β  It takes courage to reach out for help especially if that help involves taking an honest look at ourselves - our thoughts, our emotions, our lives. At Your Story, I will accompany you in this journey. If you seek support, want a deeper understanding of yourself, or want someone to talk to, I am here for you. I uphold a non-judgmental, empathic, and trauma-sensitive space within my practice. Therapy is a collaborative relationship where we can work together to assess your current challenges, identify treatment goals and build a pathway to improving your well-being. Being client-focused and goal-oriented, we will develop a therapeutic approach that best fits you. I am currently accepting clients in person and virtually. I would be happy to meet you for a free 15-min phone call consultation, and then you can decide if I am the right therapist for you.Β

Hi! My name is Stephanie and I’m a psychotherapy intern here at Your Story Counselling. I believe that each person has their own unique life story built through experiences with others, external influences, and internal meaning-making. I am honoured to be in the position to listen to life stories and help clients write new chapters in their lives.

I believe that no two people are alike and that therapy should be tailored to the goals and experiences of each client. I draw on many modalities to fit the unique needs of all clients. In particular, I utilize Narrative Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Somatic Experiencing, Mindfulness, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Through these approaches, we can create new meanings, beginnings, and life paths to help you feel in-control and fulfilled.

Above all, I hold a profound belief that all individuals are worthy of safety and acceptance. I am committed to creating a welcoming and secure environment for every client. I achieve this through a therapeutic approach that is person-centered, strengths-based, pro-LGBTQ2S+, pro-diversity, neuro-affirming, trauma-informed, and accessible.

I’m looking forward to hearing about your stories and experiences. Feel free to reach out for a free 15-minute consultation to see if we’d be a good fit!

OFFERING REDUCED FEES FOR SERVICES

Hello and welcome to my page!

My name is Shelley, and I am currently a Psychotherapy intern at Your Story Counselling. As a former Physical Therapist, I have a keen interest in the complex nature of the mind-body connection. I believe that mindfulness and self-awareness are key tools to better understanding ourselves and can guide us toward change.

In my personal life, I experienced a traumatic ankle fracture while pregnant, resulting in chronic pain and postpartum depression. My own personal journey as well as my medical background sparked my interest to help others deal with chronic pain, anxiety issues and trauma. When I began this journey, I had no idea that a pandemic would make my passion even more critical and timely, as so many are now suffering long-term mental and physical challenges due to COVID-19.

My eclectic approach utilizes tools from cognitive behavioural therapy, as well as solution-focused and mindfulness techniques while maintaining a client-centered approach. I believe each client comes to therapy with a unique set of strengths, challenges, and goals. My approach allows me the flexibility to offer individualized therapy that meets each client’s specific needs.

In the last several years, I have gained skills by volunteering as a relationship coach at a homeless shelter, working with clients dealing with relational issues, as well as depression, anxiety, substance abuse and trauma. This experience has been immensely rewarding for me and has allowed me to understand and support an underserved segment of our population.

Additionally, I am a certified life coach, and have received extra certification in both CBT and Trauma Informed Therapy to better serve my clients.

Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, reading, and spending time with my sweet dog, Fozzie.

I look forward to meeting you and supporting you along your journey to achieve better mental health!
